As the Middle Ages gave way to the Renaissance, wood shields gradually yielded in popularity to steel shields, such as this round, steel buckler. A terrific asset for mercenaries in crashing through lines of pikemen, this shield was easily maneuverable and strong. Made in India of 16 gauge steel with a rolled edge and leather grips. Popular from the late 15th until well into the 17th century. Diameter-23 1/8 inch * Wt.-6 lbs.
